K.Frimpong recorded this album backed by the Cubanos Fiesta was edited in 1980 on Polydor's label. This album is composed of beautiful highlife and afrobeat tunes. As you may notice, the title "Nye Mea" is a remake of "Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu". Very interesting piece. To finish, Alhaji K. Frimpong passed away in 2005. Long life to his music and soul...

Here is this the seriously rare album shared by Ogoun Ferraille. Thank you to him.
In the mid-70s, K. Frimpong recorded with two orchestras simultaneously. Let's begin with the Vis-A-Vis band. The first album was recorded in 1977 on the label Probisco Records (KBL 068). It has been reissued later on Makossa International Records (MA 7076). One of the best Vis-A-Vis album.

Vis-A-Vis was led by Isaac Yeboah, based in Kumasi and featuring some of the Ghana's finest musicians of the 70's: Sammy Cropper on lead guitar, Slim Yaw on bass and Kung-fu Kwaku on drums. This other album with Vis-A-Vis was recorded in 1978 on the label Ofori Brothers.

Bony Castro & LES AS DU BÉNIN (Ivory-Coast/Togo)

This rare album was composed and sung in 1980 by Ivory-Coast singer Bony Castro backed by togolese band "Les As du Bénin". The music is similar to Ernesto Djedje ziglibithy' style.

Lemed Janvier & AFRICAN ALL STARS (Congo-Bénin/1982)

This is a rare album of Lemed Janvier with African All Stars led by Sam Mangwana. Soukous as usual with Lemed.

Kpedjolemed Janvier was born in 1949 in Cove, benin. he started music at college. his father saw in him the desire to become a musician and asked him to go study at the INZA (National Arts Institute of Zaïre). But Janvier anticipates integrating the Poly-Rythmo orchestra with whom he recorded his first title: "Sais-tu que je t'aime". At the insistence of his father, he joined, in 1979, the orchestra "Les Volcans de la Capitale", which was the national orchestra, and recorded three albums. Finally, he went to study in Zaïre and joined, as singer, the Afrisa International Tabu Rey Rochereau's band. He recorded three albums: "Mea Culpa", "Akuotowévo" and finally "Lemed in Kinshasa". Lemed janvier passed away on January 11, 2011 at the age of 62.

Son père voyant en lui le désir de devenir musicien lui propose de l'inscrire à l'INZA (Institut National des Arts du Zaïre) après son baccalauréat. Mais janvier anticipe en intégrant l'Orchestre Poly-Rythmo avec qui il enregistre son premier titre: "Sais-tu que je t'aime". 1979 release. Second in a series of tributes to one of Cubas' greatest songwriting soneros: Beny More. Tito Puente's 1970s and 80s recordings are best known for the straight ahead salsa, while the later material is more Latin jazz. His musical career lasted over 50 years.

Djibril Sagbohan

One year ago, on 12 december 2013, Danialou sagbohan celebrated his 61st anniversary with family His eldest son, Djibril Sagbohan, was was preparing the next day to release his second solo record album. Djibril complained of syomach aches. Danialou proposed a remedy of plants to relieve the pain. Djibril took it like his father and Danialou's agent. Following is tragedy. Danialou and his agent are urgently hospitalized in a critical condition. They escaped death but Djibril was not so lucky and succumbed to this accidental poisoning. I pay tribute to him today with two songs taken from his posthumous album. Rest his soul.

Il y an un an , le 12 décembre 2013, Danialou Sagbohan fêtait son 61ème anniversaire en famille. Son fils ainé, Djibril Sagbohan, s’apprêtait, le lendemain, à sortir son deuxième album solo. Djibril se plaignant de maux de ventre, Danialou lui propose un remède aux plantes pour calmer la douleur. Djibril goute au remède ainsi que Danialou et et son agent. La suite est une tragédie. Danialou et son agent sont hospitalisés d'urgence. Dans un état critique ils échappent à la mort. Djibril n'a pas cette chance et succombe à cet empoisonnement accidentel. Je lui rends hommage aujourd'hui avec deux morceaux tirés de son album posthume. Paix à son âme.

H.C. Clementophe with SUPER BORGOU & POLY-RYTHMO (1975)

Very interesting vinyl composed and sung by a totally unknown artist of Benin (as usual): H.C. Clementophe. Side 1, with wonderful tune "Alougba Hué", is backed by Super Borgou orchestra and Side 2 is backed by Poly-Rythmo. Have good time. I bought it this morning in Paris, during a record convention.

Vinyle très intéressant composé et chanté H.C. Clementophe, artiste béninois totalement inconnu, comme d'habitude. J'ai trouvé ce disque ce matin dans une convention du disque à Levallois-Perret. La face 1 est enregistrée avec l'orchestre Super Borgou sur un morceau génial: "Alougba Hué". La face 2 a été enregistrée avec l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Bonne écoute.

I can't help sharing this awesome piece: "Boosha" from ghanaian emperor of Azonto rhythm. No more "Coupé-décalé" or other modern soukous rhythms, finally an african rhythm that can be exported outside the continent. Booshaaaaa.

Je ne peux m’empêcher de partager ce morceau génial: "Boosha" de Gasmilla, artiste ghanéen et empereur du rythme Azonto. Fini le "coupé décalé" ou autre soukous, enfin un rythme africain qui peut s'exporter en dehors du continent. Booshaaaaa.

I discovered Baden Powell when I was 11 years old and he changed my life for ever. I was discovering a music on which you could imagine your own lyrics. Baden Powell has made of me the poet I am today. Baden Powell is one of the best guitarist ever. This album has been recorded live in Rio at Santa Rosa Theatre in 1966.

YIEN'S CABREL (Benin/1982)

Very nice soukous album of Yien's Cabrel, an obscure artist from Benin (another one). I could not guess which band is playing back. This recording honors the famous Porto-Novo's footbal team called "the Dragons". I love the the cover.

Excellent album de soukous composé par Yien's Cabrel, un artiste obscure du Bénin ( encore un). Je n'ai pas deviné quel orchestre l'accompagne. Cet enregistrement rend hommage à la fameuse équipe de football de Porto-Novo, "Les Dragons". J'adore la pochette.

CRIOLO (Brazil/2014)

Criolo est pour moi un compromis entre Notorious Big, Fela Kuti et Bob Marley. Je pèse mes mots. Artiste brésilien aux multiples facettes musicales, Rap, Reggae, Afrobeat, Samba, Jazz, il explose avec son deuxième album en 2011 et devient une référence majeure dans la musique brésilienne. Il a conquis le monde avec un tournée internationale qui a durée deux ans. Il revient avec son troisième album et comme d'habitude il est en écoute gratuite. Criolo sait que la scène l'attend et que son orchestre est assez talentueux pour ne pas être aux services des ventes. Criolo est grand son orchestre encore plus.

N.T.M (1990/2010)

OUSMANE KOUYATÉ & Les Ambassadeurs (Mali/1984)

After "Revelation 82" that you can find HERE is great afro-funk "Kéfimba" recorded in 1984 with famous orchestra Les Ambassadeurs.
Very young, Ousmane Kouyaté is passionate about music and learns balafon and guitar. In 1978, he met Kante Mafila offering him to join the orchestra Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux, founded with Salif Keita. Ousmane took part of the recording of all the albums. He began his solo career in 1982 with: "Revelation 82" (1982), "Ousmane Kouyaté & Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux" (1983), "Kefimba" (1984) and "Domba" (1990).

Pretty old record of the Black Santiagos led by beninese trumpet player Ignace de Souza and recorded in Ghana in 1965. "Pretty Little Angel"is a twist rhythm and "Augustina" is a highlife.

The One Man Band / L'Homme Orchestre: DANIALOU SAGBOHAN (Full movie / 2006)

After several years of sleep, I decided to share and give life again to this beautiful portrait. A documentary which I signed images, editing and directing. From 200 to 2007, I followed Danialou Sagbohan throughout Benin. An immersion with one of the famous singer and musician of african continent.
I also dedicate this film to Djibril Sagbohan, the eldest son of Danialou, who participated to the movie, who assisted me ad who tragically died december 12, 2013, during the birthday party of his father.

Après plusieurs années de sommeil, j'ai décidé de redonner vie à ce magnifique portrait sur la toile. Un film dont j'ai signé les images, le montage et la réalisation. De 2000 à 2007, j'ai suivi Danialou Sagbohan dans tout le Bénin. Une immersion avec l'un des plus grand chanteur et musicien africain.

Je dédicace aussi ce film à Djibril Sagbohan, le fils ainé de Danialou, qui a participé au film, qui m'a assisté et qui est mort tragiquement le 12 décembre 2013, durant la fête anniversaire de son père.

DIFÉ (Martinique/1982)

Once is not custom, here is an amazing band from Martinique: Difé. Created in 1977 by great drummer, singer and composer Alfred Varasse who opened the doors of modern martinican music. This album is excellent especially hit "Ki Moun Ou Yé". Recorded in 1982 the band made a brilliant tribute to Bob Marley on "In Syel Markey" ("Marley in the sky").

Une fois n'est pas coutume, voici un prodigieux orchestre de Martinique: Difé. Crée en 1977 par Alfred Varasse, immense batteur, chanteur et compositeur. Précurseur de la musique moderne martiniquaise, il ouvre les portes de l'orchestre Kassav. Cet album est excellent en particulier le morceau "Ki Moun Ou Yé", un vrai tube. FERRY DJIMMY & His DJI-KINS (1971-1975)

I never mentioned remarkable beninese artist Ferry Djimmy, and for good reason, I have no record of him. Thanks to Pierre (Jam Magica) and Nuno (Kêtu Records) I can share this first Ferry Djimmy's album. Ferry Djimmy is always backed by an Ivorian band, The Dji-Kins, which was resident of famous Apollo club of Cotonou. Danialou Sagbohan notably made his debut with this band. I don't know who is the drummer of the band but he is for sure terrible. Unfortunately, on the this first Ferry Djimmy's album, recorded in 1971, i have only found three titles to share. Sorry

Je n'ai jamais évoqué Ferry Djimmy, artiste béninois remarquable, et pour cause, je ne possède aucun disque de lui. Grace à Pierre (Jam Magica) et Nuno (Kêtu records) je peux partager ce premier album de Ferry Djimmy. Ferry Djimmy est toujours accompagné par un orchestre Ivoirien, les Dji-Kins, qui on fait le bonheur du public béninois dans le club Apollo où ils résidaient. Danialou Sagbohan a notamment fait ses débuts avec cet orchestre. Je ne sais pas qui est le batteur de cet orchestre mais il est redoutable. Malheureusement, sur le premier album de Ferry Djimmy, enregistré en 1971, je n'ai trouvé que trois titres à partager. Désolé.

On the second record, distributed in 1975, and posted by famous Radiodiffusion blog, we can find the same funk style music influence that pleases european auditors. Ferry Djimmy and his Dji-Kins band had such tremendous talent that their funk style is universal.

Kabongo Wetu is an instrumentalist and composer of Congo. He used to be part of famous band "Les Bantous de la Capitale". This album was recorded in Ivory Coast with Danialou Sagbohan on drums and Dizzi Mandjeku on guitar, Kabongo Wetu was the brass. Different singers were part of this recording as Ange Linaud, NIboma and Asi Kapela.
