Adjaho Coffi & Poly-Rythmo: "Hommage..." (1977)

I have already submitted Adjaho Coffi in these posts. A great artist, musician and playwright who has always composed with Poly-Rythmo and Sagbohan Danialou. This composition honors the heroes fo Dahomey, King Behanzin and Bio Guerra, resistant to the french invader. Irony of fate, the record has been edited by a French label. Adjaho's compositions are very sophisticated and dramatic. One recognizes immediatly Adjaho.

Je vous ai déjà présenté Adjaho Coffi dans ces courriers. Un grand artiste, musicien et dramaturge qui a toujours composé avec Poly-Rythmo et Sagbohan Danialou. Cette composition rend hommage aux héros du Dahomey, le roi Béhanzin et Bio Guerra, résistant aux envahisseurs Français. Ironie du sort le disque est édité par un label Français. La musique d'Adjaho est sophistiquées et dramatiques. On reconnait immédiatement Adjaho.

King Behanzin

King Behanzin was strongly opposeed to the occupation of his country, Dahomey. His army was known for its elite, composed only of warrior women, the "Amazons". In 1891, France decided to hold Abomey, the royal capital. Behanzin was captured in 1894, deported in Martinique then in Blida, in Algeria (as you can see on the picture). He died in 1906. It was the end of resistance history of Dahomey.

Le Roi Béhanzin s'opposa farouchement à l'occupation de son pays, le Dahomey. Son armée était connue pour son élite, composée uniquement de femmes, les Amazones. En 1891, la France décide d'occuoper la ville Royale d'Abomey. Le roi est capturé en 1894, dséporté en Martinique puis à Blida, en Algérie (voir la photo). Il mourut en 1906. C'était la fin de l'histoire de la résistance du Dahomey.

Bio Guerra

Bio Guerra was a famous resistance fighter during the French colonization. On December 17, 1916, he was arrested and beheaded as an example.

This is my third post, but not the last, from A .V. A. PROMOTIONS label. You already discovered Adjao G.Coffi in a previous post. He composed and play again with Poly-Rythmo's orchestra in this wonderful recorded in 1982. Juste after after Avolonto Honore's recording. Adjaho is an artist coming from theatre, but he is also a great music composer and singer. Popular, poetic, politic, Adjaho Guillaume Coffi was a huge artist. He passed away in 2006...

Voici mon troisième courrier, mais pas le dernier, conçernant le label "Aux Vraies Aubaines". Dans un précédent courrier, je vous ai fait découvrir Adjaho Coffi avec l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Et bien on prend les mêmes et on recommençe à part qu'il manque "Papillon", le guitariste. Cet album a aussi été enregistré en 1982, peu de temps après celui de Avolonto Honoré. Populaire, poétique, politique, tous les béninois connaissent Adjaho et ses chansons. Il était était un grand artiste et un grand arrangeur. Il nous a malheureusement quitté en 2006, la même année que le chantre du Poly-Rythmo: Lohento Eskill.

T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo & Adjaho Coffi feat SAGBOHAN DANIALOU

This fantastic album was recorded in 1981 with Poly-Rythmo Orchestra. When I heard it I discovered that Sagbohan Danialou was singing the chorus and playing drums. Adjaho Coffi is known to be a famous comedian but also a great composer and singer. Some of the songs are purely inspired by traditional rhythms like Kakagbo. We can feel in those rhythms Sagbohan's arangements.

Cet album absolument génial a été enregistré en 1981 avec l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo. En l'écoutant j'ai découvert que Sagbohan Danialou chantait les choeurs et qu'il était à la cession rythmique. Adjaho Coffi était un fameux comédien, diplômé en France, mais aussi un grand auteur compositeur, ainsi que chanteur. Certains des titres de cet album sont merveilleusement inspirés par des rythmes traditionnels tels que le Kakagbo. On peut sentir dans les arrangements la pâte de Sagbohan.
