OUSMANE KOUYATÉ & Les Ambassadeurs (Mali/1984)

After "Revelation 82" that you can find HERE is great afro-funk "Kéfimba" recorded in 1984 with famous orchestra Les Ambassadeurs.
Very young, Ousmane Kouyaté is passionate about music and learns balafon and guitar. In 1978, he met Kante Mafila offering him to join the orchestra Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux, founded with Salif Keita. Ousmane took part of the recording of all the albums. He began his solo career in 1982 with: "Revelation 82" (1982), "Ousmane Kouyaté & Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux" (1983), "Kefimba" (1984) and "Domba" (1990).

LEON KEITA (Mali/1978)

Je pense qu'il était temps de réunir ces trois albums de Léon Keïta que j'avais posté il y a 4 ans et dont les liens sont "morts". Il est difficile de trouver des informations sur cet guitariste chanteur et compositeur mais ses enregistrements réservent plein de surprises. Ils ont tous été produits par des Béninois.

I think It is time to pile up these three records from guitarist, singer and composer Léon Keïta which links have been dead for a longtime. It's difficult to find informations about this artist but his recordings are full of surprises. His first records have all been edited by Beninese producers.

Le premier premier album est enregistré en 1978 par le célèbre producteur béninois Papa Disco. Léon Keita enregistre quatre titres avec l'orchestre Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux et deux duos avec Salif Keita sur "Koma Kouma" et "Wousse". Le titre "Chacun sa vie" est un cadeau afrobeat chanté en français et simplement prodigieux.

The first album was edited on Beninese record label Papa Disco in 1978. Léon Keïta recorded four titles with orchestra Les Ambassadeurs Internationnaux" et two duets with Salif Keita on "Koma Kouma" and "Wousse". "Chacun sa vie" is also a fabulous french afrobeat gift.

Le deuxième album de Léon Keïta est aussi enregistré sur le label Papa Disco en 1978. Je pense que c'est aussi l'orchestre des Ambassadeurs qui l'accompagne. La particularité de cet album est la présence au chant de Tom Diakite, célèbre artiste malien fondateur de l'orchestre Super Wassoulou.

The second album was also edited on Papa Disco's label in 1978. I think the backing band is also Les Ambassadeurs. But the led singer is famous malian musician Tom Diabaté who founded Super Wassoulou orchestra.

Le troisième album a été enregistré aussi en 1978 mais sur le label Satel Tropiques avec l'orchestre béninois Black Santiago. Léon Keita, l'homme orchestre, chante cette fois avec son frère Germain Keita et revisite de célèbres mélodies maliennes avec le chef d'orchestre de génie : Ignace de Souza.

The third record was recorded on Satel Tropiques label in 1978 with the Black Santiago's band. Léon Keïta is singing with his brother Germain famous malian melodies genius band leader Ignace de Souza.

SUPER RAIL BAND : The Album of the year 1977 (Mali)

Some of you asked me to post again this mythical album. It is done. I think that saxophonist, Tidjani Kone who will join Poly-Rythmo's orchestra later, is featuring on this recording as Mory Kante and to include Global groove's informations posted here: By this time of theis recordings in 1977, Salif Keita had already left the band, Djelimady Tounkara with his sweet guitar skills was the band's leader who wrote all their songs since 1975.

Certains parmi vous m'ont demandé de poster à nouveau cet album mythique. C'est chose faite. Je crois que Tidjani Kone, le saxophoniste qui rejoindra plus tard l'orchestre  Poly-Rythmo, figure sur cet enregistrement au même titre que Mory Kante et pour citer les informations de Global Groove qui a posté un album "similaire" ici : Lorsque cet album est enregsitré en 1977, Salif Keita a quitté l'orchestre depuis de 2 ans. Djelimady Tounkara et sa guitare douce prend la relève et devient chef d'orchestre et compositeur attitré.

AMA MAÏGA & Les Almamy du Melodie Volta (Mali - 1975)

I have never heard a record as that of Ama Maiga of Mali. I don not regret paying it expensive on ebay (300 US Dollars). Ama Maïga 's guitar is prodigious, I would love to hear more of it. I only know that Ama is called "the Malian arrow". The song "Deny Tologuelen" is a masterpiece of modern African music and it was recorded in Upper Volta (Burkina-Faso) in 1975.

Je n'ai jamais autant écouté un disque que celui d'Ama Maïga du Mali. Je ne regrette pas de l'avoir payer cher sur ebay (300 Dollars). La guitare d'Ama Maïga est prodigieuse, j'aimerai tant découvrir plus de lui, je sais seulement qu'on l'appelle "la flèche Malienne". Le titre "Deny Tologuelen" est un chef d'oeuvre de la musique moderne Africaine et a été enregistré en 1975 en Haute-Volta (Burkina Faso).

Tentemba Jazz du Mali (1977)

 

Il semble que l'orchestre Tentemba Jazz du Mali ait enregistré seulement deux singles sur le label Badmos. Vous pouvez aussi trouver l'album "Reconciliation" ici. Je crois que le chanteur du groupe est Mamadi Diabate. D'autres noms figurent tels que Sekou Kante et Amadou Touré.

It seems like Tentemba Jazz has recorded only two singles on Badmos label. You can also find the album "Reconciliation" here. I think the singer is Mamadi Diabate, but other names are listed as Sekou Kante or Amadou Toure.

Mamadou Doumbia: Vol.1 & Vol.2 on Badmos (Côte d'Ivoire, 1975)

Mamadou Doumbia is a guitarist from Côte d'Ivoire who is part, after independence, of the first generation of modern musicians, with Amédée Pierre and his "Ivoro Star" band, presumed first Ivorian musician and singer.

In 1962, Mamadou Doumbia created the band "Trio de l'entente" which will become "Orchestre de l'Entente" ("orchestra of the agreement") and recorded  over sixteen 7-inches singles on Safi Deen label. From 1975, he recorded on Badmos label, here is two volumes.

Badmos, a name that rhymed with music in Ivory Coast. Badmos the almighty. Sam Mangwana was singing: "Badmos handsome man, very slim, you've turned my head". He was born Gbadamassi Raimi of Nigerian origin and for the purposes of its business, it shall be known as Badmos. H produced many artists such as Ernesto Djedje, Bailly Spinto, Jimmy Yacinthe, Wedji Ped, François Lougah, Salif Keita, and of course Mamadou Doumbia.

This recording is from the Seventies and the lead singer is the fabulous Mamadi Diabate. I invite you to discover him in a previous great post. Après des aubaines poly-rythmiques, respirons un peu de vent Mandingue avec le Super Tentemba, un orchestre du Mali qui siégea en Côte d'Ivoire. Le chanteur de cet album, enregistré fin 70's est le grand Mamadi Diabate que je vous invite à découvrir sur un précédent courrier. Cet album géniale, profond et plein d'humour, nous vient de Vivien alias "Balafon". Merci pour ce cadeau.

Mamadi Diabate was born in Kela (Mali) in 1946. He began working as a tailor during the sixties in Bamako where he started playing guitar and singing. Unfortunately, his career was short. He recorded very few LP's, one in 1985 with Kante Manfila and the Ambassadors and this one in 1984. He also recorded with Ousmane Kouyate on a record you can fond here.

Mamadi Diabate est né à Kela au Mali en 1946. Durant les années 60s, alors qu'il travaille comme tailleur, il commence l'aprentissage de la guitare et du chant. Malheuresement sa carrière de musicien sera courte. Il enregistre de rares albums comme celui ci en 1984, ou en 1985 avec Kante Manfila. Il a aussi enregistré avec Ousmane Kouyate sur un album que vous pouvez trouver ici.

Jean Bittard was half Lebanon half Malian. He was the son of a Lebanese father and a Malian mother from Kayes". He used to be with Sidi Yassa, the regional orchestra of Kayes.

This the first album from famous Guinena guitarist Ousmane Kouyaté. Recorded in 1982, it is great mandingo modern music whith killer afro funk tune "N'ny". This record seems to have some value so thanks to Vivien for sharing it with us.

MAH-LI

Mah Kouyaté Number 2 is one of my favorite Diva from Mali. She was born from a griot family whose chief was Kabinè Kouyaté. Those two titles from "Sumu" album are particulary "envoûtants".

Mah Kouyaté: "Badjourou"

Her guitarist and husband, Fimani, was one of Mali's most famous musician. The sounds taken from his guitar are rare and powerfull. Fimani died in 2007. His guitar sound was uniquely raw and powerfull.
