PRINCE DGIB'S (1976)

I would like to share this wonderful piece of Prince Dgib's alias Gilbert Dossou (thank's wWilliam Bell). Dgib's has produced and composed in Ivory Coast with numerous artists such asPat Thomas, Sam Mangwana, Poly-Rythmo or Super Mandé bands.

Je voudrais partager ce morceau superbe morceau de Prince Dgib's alias Gilbert Dossou (merci William Bell). Dgib's a produit et composé en côte d'Ivoire avec de nombreux artiste comme Pat Thomas, Sam Mangwana, le Poly-Rythmo ou encore Le Super Mandé.

Sam Mangwana & Les Dadjes (1980)

Voici encore un exemple de création Béninoise surprenante. Cet album a été composé  et chanté par le célèbre congolais Sam Mangwana, enregistré en Côte D'Ivoire avec l'orchestre Les Dadjes (orchestre béninois du fameux Gnonnas Pedro) et produit sur le label Sodagil du très connu artiste béninois Gilbert Dossou alias Prince Dgib's. Je vous laisse savourer cette bonne mayonnaise.

Here is another example of surprising Beninese creation. This album has been composed and sung by the famous Congolese Sam Mangwana, recorded in Ivory Coast with the band "Les Dadjes" (famous Gnonnas Pedro' band) and on the label Sodagil, from well-known Beninese artist Gilbert Dossou aka Prince's Dgib's. I let you taste this good mayonnaise.

Orchestre Super Mande (Côte d'Ivoire, 1980)

Still a wonderful weapon, the Super Mande band with three great names of African music from Mali, Burkina-Faso and Benin. This sublime and rare record was recorded in Ivory-Coast in 1980. An example of culture exchange and beauty...

Abdoulaye Diabate, a griot singer from Mali, who began his career with the Orchestra Regional de Segou, and who will make famous later the great Orchestra Kene Star de Sikasso, is composer and leader. he gives us full scope of his talent.

Mangue Konde, from Burkina, is on guitar and his talent explodes on all tracks of the album. It is pure psychedelic happiness. We can feel that Konde is transcended by Diabate's songs. I do not know if the Super Mande band was created by Mangue Konde, but he is one of the undisputed leader.
Gilbert Dossou, alias Prince Dgib's, from Benin and already discovered in this post, was a famous producer in Ivory Coast. He had created his own label Sodogil. Dossou has directed this volume N°9 and we can recognize typical Beninese bells arrangements in the fantastic  song "Bolon".

Encore une merveilleuse arme de guerre, l'orchestre Super Mandé avec trois grands noms de la musique africaine venant du Mali, du Burkina et du Bénin, et qui enregistrent ce sublime et rare album en Côte d'Ivoire. Un exemple de culture, de rencontre et de beauté...

Abdoulaye Diabate, chanteur et griot du Mali, qui a commencé sa carrière avec l'Orchestre Régional de Ségou, et qui fera briller plus tard l'Orchestre Kene Star de Sikasso, est, sur cet album, compositeur et chef d'orchestre, et donne toute l'ampleur de son talent sur des nappes psychédéliques.

Mangué Konde est à la guitare et son talent explose littéralement sur tous les morceaux de ce disque, je vous le dis, c'est du pur bonheur. On sent que Mangué est transcendé par Diabate. Je ne saurais dire si Konde a créé l'orchestre Super Mande, mais il en est leader incontesté.

Gilbert Dossou alias Prince Dgib's, que vous avez déjà découvert avec Poly-Rythmo dans ce courrier génial, était un producteur de renommé en Côte d'Ivoire, il avait crée son propre label Sodogil, dont je partage aujourd'hui le numéro 9. Dossou a réalisé cet album dantesque et on reconnait dans le sublime morceau "Bolon", des arrangements de gons typiquement Béninois. Seul reproche à faire, un enregistrement qui parfois sature.

Kilola & Orchestre Poly-Rythmo

I have no informations about Kilola. If somebody has ? Anyway this lp has been recorded in Benin in the late 70s with powerfull Poly-Rythmo and directed by Dgib's on his Sodogil label. Heavy soukous.

Je n'ai aucune information sur Kilola. Si quelqu'un en a ? En tout cas cet album a été enregistré au Bénin avec le puissant Poly-Rythmo et réalisé par Dgib's le propriétaire du label Sodogil. Grosse soukous.

Pat Thomas (Ghana/1979)

Pat Thomas was Born in 1951 in Kumasi, Ghana. The wave of disco and reggae that swept Africa in the mid-70s created differing responses: some musicians pulled away from playing imported music entirely, others adopted it and adapted it to their own purposes. One of the latter category is highlife vocalist Thomas, who made his name with his band the Sweet Beans. He was brought up by his uncle, Onyina, a celebrated local band leader and the owner of a record store in Kumasi.

In 1969 he joined the Broadway Dance Band, leaving a year later to join the Uhuru Dance Band for a tour of the UK. Returning to Ghana, he played with Ebo Taylor’s Blue Monks, spent a year in the Cote D’lvoire and then formed the Sweet Beans in 1973. Like many Ghanaian bands, the Sweet Beans received sponsorship from a government body, in this case the Cocoa Marketing Board. They released False Lover in 1974, then split and re-formed as Marijata, releasing Marijata and Pat Thomas Introduces Marijata, after which Thomas released two reggae-influenced solo albums, Let’s Think It Over and Asawado.

T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo: 0+0=0 (1983)

Very nice Poly-Rythmo compilation i think  released after the death in 1982 of the two composers of the band, Papillon, the guitarist, and Yehouessi Leopold, the drummer. Dossou Gilbert aka Prince Dgib's produced this LP which was distributed in France.

Très bon album du Poly-Rythmo. Je pense que c'est une compilation sortie après la mort de deux figures du groupe: Papillon, le guitariste et Yehouessi Leopold, le batteur. Ils sont d’ailleurs tous les deux compositeurs de l'album qui a été produit par Dossou Gilbert alias Prince Dgib's pour une distribution française.
