Les Volcans de Porto-Novo (1977)

There are some records that you will remember all your life the one of the "Volcans de Porto-Novo du Bénin". This record is nearly mint and will be soon available on Diaspora Records. This extraordinary recording from 1977 was composed by Joseph Atchade. The label mentions "Goun Reggae" music style. The word "Goun" indicates the ethnicity and language from Port-Novo and its region, but "reggae" sounds funny. The title "Jomido" is a sublime "Afro-Cuban" perfectly arranged and the title "Mi Kpé Dogbekpo" is an agbadja modernized rhythm from west-coast of Benin, a marvel to dance...

thank you for this great recording - it IS fantastic. One question, though - the version of "Mi Kple Dogbekpo" posted here is quite a bit slower than that included on the African Scream Contest. Is it possible that they remastered the recording a little faster or that your phonograph is a little faster?

This is in answer to zim's question about speed from six years ago now...

If this live recording - which was posted to YouTube two years after you first asked - is to be used as evidence, the answer is that it is this Oro rip which is slow, and the version on "African Scream Contest" which is correct.
