KONDE MANGUE & Les 5 Consuls (Burkina-Faso/1976)

Every day, every where another terrorist attack. Let's resist with famous Burkinabese singer and guitarist Kondé Mangue and its "Pop Konde". Recorded in 1976 on Volta Discobel label. The second title "Woulouni" can be found on "Voltaique Panoramique Volume 1" Compilation.

KONDE MANGUE feat. AMADOU BALLAKE (Burkina-Faso/1975)

It's always a pleasure to discover Amadou Ballaké's hidden voice hearing recordings of "Les 5 consuls"' band. For those who don't know Kondé Mangué, he was a major guitarist during the seventies in Burkina Faso.

Traore Amadou Ballake & Ses Dieux (1975)

I wanted to re-post this record in a better quality ripping. That's done. This album is beautiful and one of the best Ballake. Funk, rock, psychedelic, mandingo, Traore founds is unique style. Note that the great guitarist Mangue Konde already accompanies him.

Still a wonderful weapon, the Super Mande band with three great names of African music from Mali, Burkina-Faso and Benin. This sublime and rare record was recorded in Ivory-Coast in 1980. An example of culture exchange and beauty...
Abdoulaye Diabate, a griot singer from Mali, who began his career with the Orchestra Regional de Segou, and who will make famous later the great Orchestra Kene Star de Sikasso, is composer and leader. he gives us full scope of his talent.
Mangue Konde, from Burkina, is on guitar and his talent explodes on all tracks of the album. It is pure psychedelic happiness. We can feel that Konde is transcended by Diabate's songs. I do not know if the Super Mande band was created by Mangue Konde, but he is one of the undisputed leader.
Gilbert Dossou, alias Prince Dgib's, from Benin and already discovered in this post, was a famous producer in Ivory Coast. He had created his own label Sodogil. Dossou has directed this volume N°9 and we can recognize typical Beninese bells arrangements in the fantastic  song "Bolon".

WAR IN CÔTE D'IVOIRE with Super Mande (Mangue Konde)

I make war in Ivory Coast with the best weapon: the orchestra Super Mande. Laurent Gbagbo should listen to the music that will come because it represents the richness and and diversity of the region. North or South, throughout Africa is built with the same mapping, albeit a colonial legacy but an asset for a global era. I say no to racist bred, no to the baker Gbagbo.
Thus, I propose an album which had great success on Oro and representing the golden age of music in Ivory Coast. Recorded in 1978, this beautiful album is composed by Mangue Konde, from Burkina Faso. His guitar is magic and peaceful and the band brings together all the Ivorian ethnic groups, a necklace of ivory...

Coulibaly Tidiani feat. Amadou Ballake (Burkina, 1978)

This second opus from Coulibaly Tidiani is terrible. Mangue Konde is on guitar and Amadou Ballake is singing on two tracks: "Yafamma" and "Walai M'Bife". This vey rare album ends with a fabulous tune: "Sie Koumgolo". For those who missed the first opus check it here.
Coulibaly Tidiani was called "Djéliba" which means "great griot". He started his career in 1962 with Dynamic Jazz Orchestra. In 1964, he founded the Volta Jazz, and 1975, the Dafra Star. He was a pioneer of Burkinabese modern music. He died in 2005.

Burkina Faso (1974-1978)

Orchestre Harmonie Voltaique:
It was the oldest and most prolific orchestra in the Upper Volta. In the Latin-Mossi track "Nwendaramba" the singer points out that those who wear shoes can do what they like whereas the poor will always be pushed from pillar to post. In the final track, "M'baba Taram", the band open up the guitars for a song about a spoilt son who meets his comeuppance when he squanders his inheritance and is reduced to selling kebabs in the street.

Orchestre Super Volta:
Super Volta were the key band for CVD, provinding most of the music for its two major singers, Amadou Ballake and Sandwidi Pierre. Alongside there work with them the band can be heard here with Cisse Abdoulaye on his composition "Son Magni", a complaint about a lazy sister.

Sandwidi Pierre:
In song after song he dignified the vast rural majority of the Upper Volta whilst sparing the urban elite no quarter. The first song of Sandwidi's songs included on thsi compilation, "Ouaga Affaires", recorded with Harmonie Voltaique, tells the story of a man leaving the countryside to meet his friend in the capital. Disillusioned with the treatment of the rural majority by the urban middle class he launches into a catalogue of Ouaga's vices.
In "Yamb Ney Capitale" , recorded with Super Volta, Sandwidi tells the story of a man born in Ouagadougou who goes to work as a civil servant in a rural district. He returns to Ouaga for holiday and meets a woman in a bar. He takes her out for the night and she accompanies him back to his hotel. In the morning he 300 CFA as a present but she insists a night costs 1000 CFA and unles he pays she will report him to the police.
In the song "Mam Ti Fou", against with Super Volta, Sandwidi is called a thief for standing beside a man's car, which prompts him to unleash an invective against his bourgeosie accuser.

Amadou Ballake:
His unsparalleled voice was destined to make im a superstar in the orchestra Harmonie Voltaique. He quickly formed his own group, Les 5 Consuls, with the superb Mangue Konde on lead guitar. The band can be heard here with their excellent latin number "Baden Djougou".

Mangue Konde:
His best work, as a composer, would come after Les 5 Consuls disbanded and he teamed up with Super Mande of Côte d'Ivoire. Super Mande's heavy rhythm section provided the ideal framework for Konde's guitar and the band can be heard her in full effect with the track "Touba". You can also listen to his fantastic album taht I posted HERE.

And also Supremes Kombemba Orchestra, Mamo Lagbema and Dafra Star.

Konde Mangue & Amadou Ballake (Burkina-Faso/1975)

Great record composed by famous guitarist Konde Mangue featuring Amadou Ballaké and backed by orchestra "Les 5 Consuls". I really like the title "Fasso Baro".
