Migan Celestin & Orchestre Les Vodoun (1979)

Here is  another Migan celestin's sp recorded in 1979 which has two particularities: First, The Vodoun's band, i never heard about it (another obscure band of Benin), second, the great singer Miguelito who sings in "Mosaico" title.

Voici un nouveau 45 tours de Migan Celestin enregistré en 1979 qui a deux particularités: Premièrement l'orchestre Les Vodoun, inconnu pour moi et de plus au Bénin, deuxièmement la participation du grand Miguelito qui chante sur le morceau "Mosaico".

Migan Celestin feat Sagbohan Danialou, Miguelito, Tidiane Kone / 1978

Celestin Migan called Mig-Tino was with Bernard Zoudegnon from Poly-Rythmo one of the best guitarist in Benin during the 70s. Member of the Orchestre de la B.C.B. led by Danialou Sagbohan, Celestin naturally recorded this solo album with Sagbohan on drums or other famous artits like Tidiane Kone on saxophone or Miguelito as chorist. You can discover more music from Mig-Tino on this post.

Célestin Migan, dit Mig-Tino, était avec Bernard Zoudegnon du Poly-Rythmo le meilleur guitariste du Bénin durant les années 70s. Certains disent qu'il était le maitre de Zoudegnon. T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo & Antoine Dougbe (1977)

This record is very special and rare. I especially like it because Bylledey Guissey sings on all tracks (we can also hear the particular style of his chorus) exept the exceptional "Towe Nin" sung by the big Miguelito who has been already presented on Oro. The orchestra is the powerful Poly-Rythmo and compositions from Antoine Dougbe. Dougbe was not singing or playing modern instrument. He composed and Clément Melome, the leader, made the arrangements. He was initiated into Vodoun religion, that may be why he was not allowed to sing. Singing is sacred when your are a Vodoun priest... This master piece album was recorded in 1977 on Satel.

Cet album est spécial et rare car Bylledey Guissey chante sur tous les morceaux (on entend aussi le style particulier de ses choeurs) excépté sur l'exceptionnel morceau "Towé Nin", chanté par le grand Miguelito, déjà présenté sur Oro. L'orchestre est le puissant Poly-Rythmo et les compositions sont d'Antoine Dougbè. Dougbè était à part, il ne chantait pas et ne jouait d'un instrument moderne. Il composait et Clément Mélomè, le chef d'orchestre, s'occupait des arrangements. Il était initié à la religion Vodoun, et c'est peut-être pour cette raison qu'il n'était pas autorisé à chanter. Le chant est du domaine du sacré lorsqu'on est prêtre Vodoun... Ce superbe album a été enregistré en 1977 par les studios Satel.

Tchico & l'International Orchestre "African Kings" (Congo/Benin, 1982)

Tchico Tchicaya, famous Congolese singer and composer, recorded this album in Benin with a mixed Congolese and Beninese band. Loubassou Denis "La Cloche" is on guitar solo, Danialou Sagbohan on drums, Gustave Bentho from Poly-Rythmo on bass guitar, Ignace de Souza from Black Santiago on trumpet and finally Miguelito made a appearance playing the role of a jealous Burkinabese husband on track "Sens Interdit chez Tania". Therefore this album brings together the finest musicians from Beninese music for an original soukouss music album.

Tchico Tchicaya, fameux chanteur et compositeur Congolais, enregistre cet album au Bénin avec une formation Congolaise et Béninoise. Loubasou Denis "La Cloche" est la guitare, Danialou Sagbohan à la batterie; Gustave Bentho du Poly-Rythmo, à la guitare basse; Ignace de Souza du Black Santiago à la trompette et enfin Miguelito fait une apparition en jouant le rôle d'un mari jaloux Burkinabé sur le morceau "Sens Interdit chez Tania". Cet album rassemble donc la crème de la musique Béninoise pour un album de soukouss original.

LOUIS WASSON feat. Ignace de Souza, Danialou Sagbohan, Miguelito (Cameroon/1979)

Louis Wasson is a great guitarist and arranger from Cameroon. During the 70's, he spent few years in Benin recording with numerous artists such as Danialou Sagbohan or Ambroise Fidegnon. He also arranged albums like that of Antoine Dougbé (watch links). All his recordings are remarkable.

On this soukous and reggae LP, Ignace de Souza is on trumpet, Danialou Sagbohan i the battery and Miguelito is the chorus, no less... A rare record with excellent arrangements and amazing guitars. I only regret that Sagbohan does not solo, but as he says: "I work for the band, a drummer must remain humble". This number 175 from label Satel was recorded in 1978.

Louis Wasson est un grand guitariste et arrangeur Camerounais. Durant les années 70's, il passe plusieurs années au Bénin où il enregistre avec des ténors tels que Danialou Sagbohan ou Ambroise Fidegnon. Il arrrange aussi des albums notamment celui d'Antoine Dougbé (voir lien). Sur tous ces enregistrements Wasson est remarquable.

Sur ce 33 tours soukous et reggae, Ignace de Souza est à la trompette, Danialou Sagbohan à la batterie et Miguelito aux choeurs, rien que ça. Je regrette seulement que Sagbohan n'execute pas un solo, mais comme il dit: "Je suis au service de l'orchestre, un batteur doit rester humble". Ce numéro 175 du label Satel a été enregistré en 1978.

Orchestre Les Volcans & Miguelito (1984)

One hand on heart, lying on a car like a dragon on the roof of the world, Miguelito says goodbye before the occurence of a fatal road. The picture is prescient, three years after this album, Toffo Hossou, called "Miguelito", died along with Ignace de Souza, on the way to a concert.

We retain of this anthologycal album, the sublime tune "Yemakpego Dragons", a tribute to the football team "Dragons" of Porto-Novo. The title "African Tchango Jam" is also a tribute to the african radios and the "Voduns" of Benin, with their musical power as Oro...

Une main sur le coeur, allongé sur voiture comme un dragon sur le toit du monde, Miguelito, dit au revoir avant l'accident d'une route fatale. Cette pochette est prémonitoire, trois ans après cet album, Toffo Hossou, dit Miguelito, perd la vie, ainsi qu'Ignace de Souza, sur le chemin d'un concert.

T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo & Bentho Gustave (1980)

Bentho Gustave began his career with the Super Star Of Ouidah (previous post) and joined, in 1969, the powerfull Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. He is the composer and the bass player of this album which was released in 1980 on famous Libert label. I especially like "So ke mi" sung by Miguelito.

Bentho Gustave a commencé sa carrière dans l'Orchestre Super Star de Ouidah (précédent courrier). En 1969, il co-fonde l'Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Sur cet album, édité en 1980 par sur le fameux Label Libert, il compose et joue bien entendu de son instrument fétiche, la guitare-bass. J'aime particulièrement le titre "So Ke Mi" chanté par Miguelito.
