Another great album shared by Ogoun Ferraille again. Thank you a thousand times to him.

K.Frimpong recorded this album backed by the Cubanos Fiesta was edited in 1980 on Polydor's label. This album is composed of beautiful highlife and afrobeat tunes. As you may notice, the title "Nye Mea" is a remake of "Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu". Very interesting piece. To finish, Alhaji K. Frimpong passed away in 2005. Long life to his music and soul...

K.Frimpong enregistre cet album avec l'orchestre The Cubanos Fiesta en 1980 sur le label Polydor. L'album est riche de rythmes highlife et afrobeat. This rare album was composed and sung in 1980 by Ivory-Coast singer Bony Castro backed by togolese band "Les As du Bénin". The music is similar to Ernesto Djedje ziglibithy' style.

Je vous fais découvrir aujourd'hui la musique afrobeat de Demos Deniran, un artiste Nigerian très respecté pas des compagnons de routes tels que Sonny Okosun ou Ebenezer Obey qui lui consacreront un album en son hommage intitulé "Final Race".

I invite you to discover Demos Deniran's music (Real name Moses Adeniran). Great afrobeat from Nigeria. Deniran passed on in 1995 but remains highly respected in Nigerian musical and religious circles with stars such as Sonny Okosun and Ebenezer Obey coming out to perform tributes to him, including recording an album called "Final Race".

Demos Deniran a participé au fameux festival culturel africain organisé au Nigeria en 1977. J'ai trouvé un morceau tiré de cet album que je voudrais partager avec vous. Le titre est "FESTAC (Ariya)".

Another great album produced and directed by Gilbert Dossou on his Sodogil label. If someone has informations about Assalé who composed and wrote this album I would be grateful. This record is known for the famous afrobeat tune "Ameniwa". Dreadful, dangerous, positive, natural.

Thione Seck & et son ensemble (Senegal/1980)

Thione Seck is a famous Senegalese mbalax singer. Born in 1955 in Dakar, he comes from a family of griots. His great-grandfather was a singer at the court of Lat Dior, famous damel (king) Cayor, notorious resistant during french colonization. He naturally joined ceremonies and traditional festivals during his childhood such as singer or percussionist. As a percussionist, he joined the big band "Orchestra Baobab". In 1984, he created with his brother a band called "Raam Daan", delivering several albums.

Thione Seck est un célèbre chanteur sénégalais de mbalax. 
Né en 1955 à Dakar, il est issu d'une famille de griots. Son arrière grand-père était chanteur à la cour de Lat Dior, célèbre damel (roi) du Cayor et résistant notoire à la colonisation française. 

Il participe donc naturellement dès l'enfance aux cérémonies et aux fêtes traditionnelles comme chanteur et percussionniste.

Étant percussionniste, il intègre le grand orchestre "Orchestra Baobab".

Nestor Hountondji / El Rego & ORCHESTRE LES DOYENS (1980)

Les Volcans & Boco Thierry (1980)

Il est bon de commencer l'année avec l'orchestre le plus puissant du Bénin au siècle passé (avec Poly-Rythmo bien entendu). Cet orchestre des Volcans de la Gendarmerie est une armée dangereuse qui peut vous attaquer à chaque album. Celui d'aujourd'hui est épiphaniquement composé par le mage Thierry Boco, à son retour de Cuba, qui nous offre l'or de la salsa cubaine.
Ce disque a été enregistré en 1980 sur le label "Editions Philomène" et arrangé par les "deux cerveaux". Je ne sais pas qui sont ces deux cerveaux mais ils ont gravé deux superbes pièces: "Medewi" et "Semedo".

It is good to start the year with the most powerful band of Benin in the last century (with Poly-Rythmo of course). This military band, "Les Volcans", is a dangerous army that can attack you each album. That of today is composed by the epiphanic Thierry Boco, traveling back from Cuba, who shares with us the gold of salsa rhythms.
This record was edited on the label "Editions Philomena" in 1980. It has been arranged by "the two brains". I do not know those "two brains" but they have offered two wonder pieces: "Medewi" and "Semedo".

Orchestre Super Mande (Côte d'Ivoire, 1980)

Still a wonderful weapon, the Super Mande band with three great names of African music from Mali, Burkina-Faso and Benin. This sublime and rare record was recorded in Ivory-Coast in 1980. An example of culture exchange and beauty...

Abdoulaye Diabate, a griot singer from Mali, who began his career with the Orchestra Regional de Segou, and who will make famous later the great Orchestra Kene Star de Sikasso, is composer and leader. he gives us full scope of his talent.

Mangue Konde, from Burkina, is on guitar and his talent explodes on all tracks of the album. It is pure psychedelic happiness. We can feel that Konde is transcended by Diabate's songs. I do not know if the Super Mande band was created by Mangue Konde, but he is one of the undisputed leader.
Gilbert Dossou, alias Prince Dgib's, from Benin and already discovered in this post, was a famous producer in Ivory Coast. He had created his own label Sodogil. Dossou has directed this volume N°9 and we can recognize typical Beninese bells arrangements in the fantastic  song "Bolon".

Gilbert Dossou alias Prince Dgib's, que vous avez déjà découvert avec Poly-Rythmo dans ce courrier génial, était un producteur de renommé en Côte d'Ivoire, il avait crée son propre label Sodogil, dont je partage aujourd'hui le numéro 9. Dossou a réalisé cet album dantesque et on reconnait dans le sublime morceau "Bolon", des arrangements de gons typiquement Béninois. Seul reproche à faire, un enregistrement qui parfois sature.

Guelewars Band of Banjul: "Tasito" (Gambia, 1980)

I post today a gift from Jammagica blog, the second album from the Guelewars from Gambia. A band which plays afro-fusion, jazz, pysch, funk and mandingo music cocktail sprinkled with senegalese sabar and tama percussions. The singer and composer is Moussa N'Gom and his music is really singular. I also love the psychedelic cover.

Je poste aujourd'hui un cadeau du blog Jammagica, le second album des Guelewars de Gambie, un orchestre au puissant cocktail Afro-fusion, psuch, funk, jazz, mandingue arrosé de percussions sénégalaises tama et sabar. Le chanteur et compositeur est Moussa N'Gom et sa musique est vraiment singulière. J'aime aussi la pochette complètement psychée.

Joel Lawani (1980)

El Jowania, whose real name is Joel Lawani, is originally from Porto-Novo. He began his salsero career in 1969 with famous backing bands like Black Santiago, Los Commandos and Les Volcans. In 1977, he released his first album Akpe, which means "thank you" in Mina language (Akpè to Gnonnas Pedro who produced him). El Jowania released his sixth album in 2007 and more alive than ever...

The album Yena Vio that Oro presents is from the early 80s and it is marked with Fender iron red electric organ. Beautiful sound. It has been recorded in Togo and published by an obscure label, International HKD.

El Jowania, de son vrai nom Joël Lawani, est orihinaire de Porto-Novo, la capitale.Il commença sa carrière en 1969 et s'accompagne d'orchestres fameux tels que Black Santiago, Los Commandos et Les Volcans. En 1977, il sort son premier album Akpè, qui veut dire merci en langue Mina (Akpè à Gnonna Pedro qui l'a produit). El Jowania a sorti son sixième album en 2007 et il est plus vivant que jamais.

L'album qu'Oro présente date du début des année 80's et il est marqué au fer rouge de l'éléctrique piano Fender. Un son magnifique. L'album a été enregistré au Togo et édité par un label inconnu, Intenational HKD.

Orchestre Les Volcans du Bénin (1980)

I should have post this record a long time ago but this album is not so easy to find. Recorded around 1980, i think Nestor Hountondji is not featuring in the band. All songs, except the famous "Oya Ka Jojo", were composed by Julien Da Costa (no information about him) and interpreted by Joseph Lawani (no information also). So I let you listen to 
this major album.

J'aurais du poster ce disque il y a longtemps mais cet album n'est pas si facile à trouver. Enregistré vers 1980, je crois que Nestor Hoountondji ne figure pas dans la formation. Tous les morceaux, excepté le célèbre "Oya Ka Jojo" composé par l'orchestre, ont été composés par Julien Da Costa, dont je n'ai aucune information, et interprétés par Joseph Lawani, dont je n'ai aussi aucune information. Je vous laisse donc savourer cet album majeur.

Singer Nahounou & Orchestre Black Santiago

I have no information on Singer Nahounou, except that Singer is a famous sewing machine in Africa. I know that Nahounou recorded at least three albums. This N°95 from Alabarika Store was maybe recorded in 1980. Singer sews the Soukous music with talent and cover our ears with a beautiful Black Santiago's hat.

Je n'ai aucune informations sur Singer Nahounou, à part que Singer est une fameuse machine à coudre en Afrique. Je sais que Nahounou a enregistré au moin trois albums, notamment avec les Poly-Rythmo. Ce N°95 d'Albarika Store a vraisemblablement été enregistré en 1980. Singer coud de a soukous avec talent et nous couvre les oreilles du superbe chapeau "Black Santiago".

Nestor Hountondji & Les Axes 80 (1980)

After Orchestra "Les Volcans", Nestor Hountondji recorded on his own label Nesto-Disco and with a new band: "Les Axes 80". This first solo album is rare and in very good shape.

Gnonnas Pedro: "Africa Tei Cuba" (1980)

A while ago, I posted the single "30 Novembre..." but it was incomplete. So here is pure and complete modern Agbadja rhythm which Gnonnas Pedro is the teacher from. I also post "Africa Tei Cuba", an album of very different music styles: Afro-Cuban rhythm, Slow or French song inspired by Charles Aznavour's music. A true musical care delivered by Doctor Pedro.

As always, his lyrics are on the governement side. Gnonnas Pedro was surely not a politic opponent during the years of Marxism (between 1975 to 1989). In other words, Gnonnas Pedro healed the body but not the mind...

Il y a un moment, j'ai posté le single "30 Novembre..." mais il était incomplet. Voici donc ce pure et complet rythme d' "Agbadja moderne" dont Gnonnas est le professeur. Je poste aussi "Afrei Tu Cuba", un album aux styles très variés: rythme Afro-Cubain, Slow ou chanson française inspirée de Charles Aznavour. Un vrai soin musical délivré par le Docteur Pedro.

Comme toujours les paroles de Gnonnas sont pro-gouvernementales. Il n'était sûrement pas un opposant politique durant les années de Marxisme (Entre 1975 et 1989). Autrement dit, Gnonnas Pedro soignait le corps mais pas les esprits...

Amadou Balake (1980)

For the fans of Amadou Traore called Balake, here is a another EP recorded in 1980 on Sacodis. His recordings from the end of the 70's are, for me, deeper and closer to traditional rhythms from the region.

Gnonnas Pedro: El Cochechivo

I think this album from Gnonnas Pedro deserves a better sleeve. Nevertheless, this Cochechivo, one of the best album of the maestro, carries his signature. It was recorded in 1980.



Ce vinyle de Gnonnas Pedro mériterait une plus belle pochette. Néanmoins, cet album de 1980 est l'un des meilleurs du maestro.

T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo & Bentho Gustave (1980)

Bentho Gustave began his career with the Super Star Of Ouidah (previous post) and joined, in 1969, the powerfull Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. He is the composer and the bass player of this album which was released in 1980 on famous Libert label. I especially like "So ke mi" sung by Miguelito.

Bentho Gustave a commencé sa carrière dans l'Orchestre Super Star de Ouidah (précédent courrier). En 1969, il co-fonde l'Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Sur cet album, édité en 1980 par sur le fameux Label Libert, il compose et joue bien entendu de son instrument fétiche, la guitare-bass. J'aime particulièrement le titre "So Ke Mi" chanté par Miguelito.
