On sous estime souvent la valeur des enregistrements de musique traditionnelle. Durant la période d'édition en vinyle, les orchestres traditionnels ont enregistrés autant de disques que les orchestres modernes. Aujourd'hui la musique traditionnelle n'a pas bougé, fidèle à ses instruments traditionnels, à son style, et émancipée grâce aux progrès techniques d'enregistrements.

De son vrai nom, Bessanvi Coffi Albert, Bessanvi Gbessi Zolawadji est bé en 1952 sur l'archipel de Djegbadji, un au lieu de migration du peuple Xwla, à quelques kilomètres de Ouidah. Dans ce paysage, il apprit à lire les merveilles de la nature, à admirer le bruit des vagues, source d'inspiration. Son penchant pour la chanson, il le tient de son père Bessanvi Dossou alias Atchaba, un grand chanteur de la contrée et surtout de sa mère Adjouavi qui appartient elle aussi à la lignée des grands chanteurs Xwla. L'artiste a connu un itinéraire élogieux qui requiert l'admiration de tous. Gbessi a accumulé des trophées et des distinctions tous azimuts. Sur le plan international, il a été deux fois nominé au Kora (1999 et 2000) et c'est en 2001 qu'il remporta le trophée Kora dans la catégorie des meilleurs artistes traditionnels d'Afrique, c'était la grande consécration.

We often underestimate the value of traditional music recordings. During the period of vinyl editions, traditional orchestras have recorded many records as far as modern bands. Today traditional music did not move, true to its fidelity to old instruments and style, emancipated thanks to technical evolutions or recording.

His real name is Albert Bessanvi Koffi, he is known as Bessanvi Gbessi Zolawadji. He was born in 1952 in Djegbadji, few miles from Ouidah, a place known for its migration of Xwla people. In this landscape, he learned to read the wonders of nature, to admire the waves, a source of inspiration. His fondness for the song comes from his father, Bessanvi Dossou alias Atchaba, a geat singer, and especially his mother Adjouavi, which also belongs to the lineage of great Xwla singers. The artist deserves admiration. Gbessi accumulated trophies and awards. Internationally, he was nominated two times for the Kora (1999 and 2000), then in 2001 he won the Kora Award in the category of best traditional artists from Africa. It was the great consecration.
