K. FRIMPONG & His Cubano Fiestas (Ghana/1980)

Another great album shared by Ogoun Ferraille again. Thank you a thousand times to him.
K.Frimpong recorded this album backed by the Cubanos Fiesta was edited in 1980 on Polydor's label. This album is composed of beautiful highlife and afrobeat tunes. As you may notice, the title "Nye Mea" is a remake of "Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu". Very interesting piece. To finish, Alhaji K. Frimpong passed away in 2005. Long life to his music and soul...

You had an earlier post about Obiba Collins Marfo... A great Ghanaian guy who used to play bass & percussion with Fela ... this is a great guy whom I believe contributed a lot to K. Frimpong's success... he was the composer of the 1977 Cubano Fiesta album & Frimpong mentions him in a few other subsequent cubano fiesta songs... interesting to note that K. frimpong & cubano fiestas had a continous yearly release from 1976 to 1980, the only year within this period when the cubano fiestas failed to release an album is 1979, and thats when Collins Marfo released his album... then 1980 another cubano fiesta album, the following year 1981 collins marfo released his album... all am trying to say is the cubano fiestas didnt have an album whenever collins marfo released an album... it may be coincidence but if you look up collins marfo "owuo yi" album sold online in the past, people refered to it as a "K. Frimpong Style".... not to take away Frimpong's greatness but I know k. frimpong was doing the guitar band/palmwine style highlife before the cubano fiestas ...and collins marfo was playing afrobeat with Fela... are we sure that style is really k. frimpong or was it marfo?...A case of the chicken & the egg, who came first?!... K. frimpong passed on but Marfo is still alive today...someday i hope to interview him about it... different opinions on this is welcome... we are all learning

Is this the same guy who was in Osofo Dadzie comedies?

kwabena boakye said...

@Anonymous... it was rather the late S.K. Oppong that was a regular feature in the Osofo Dadzie comedies... I know the ending of their names are similar thats why it confused you...Oppong & Frimpong

Kwabena, the actor I was trying to remember was Frimpong Manso, who played the role of Osofo in the Osofo Dadzie series.

Love both but have always preferred this one to the Red album. Everyone should have access to this lost music. Thanks for sharing.
